I actually think Fishman is a good pick-up.
Very reliable.
I've used it many years ago for a while, and just bought it again, using it on a day to day basis.
Very cool overall for different situations.

Perhaps it's not the best, and I have yet to try the L.R.Baggs...
However, I can already see the strong points and weaknesses of both pick-up systems.
It seems - nothing is perfect.
Follow your own intuition.

this is an old post, but just in case...
the LR Baggs is great. I've used it as both a preamp and a DI for my acoustic violin with pickup, and it's never been too hot for anything. Keep in mind that whoever wrote those reviews on harmony-central were playing guitars, not fiddles (i'm not sure if that would account for it, but it might).

you've probably already gotten a DI of some sort. I'd recommend getting a better pickup than the fishman. I used the fishman until recently and always thought it was terrible, as does everyone else i've ever talked to about it.

I need advice about a DI EQ device. I've read good things about the LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI, but also read that it's not a good DI, i.e. too hot for the board. (See http://www.harmony-central.com/Effects/Data/L_R__Baggs/Para_Acoustic_DI-01.html )

Am also considering the Sansamp Acoustic DI, now called the Para. Can anyone tell me how either of these perform through a PA? I have a Fishman piezo on my acoustic viola.

Thanks!
