Hello to all.
I have been playing violin since I was 9 years old. To say how long ago that was...well...just take mmy word it was a long time ago. I also play viola as well as teach both violin and voice.
I am currently in a Middle Eastern Band, Al-Samoud. It has been extremely fun as well as a challenge for me to not only learn the music but to also play the electric violin. I have always played acoustic with only a barcus barry for a pick-up. I still play my acoustic instrument for SCA events where I do alot of Irish, Scottish and Celtic music. But for the band I'm plugged in so I can compete soundwise with an electric Oud and a minimum of three drummers.
The instrument that I have is a Knilling, 5-string. It has the 4 strings of the violin with the added C on the bottom. From what I understand of this instrument there were only 7 of these made. It's a great instrument and the overall sound is wonderful. It does get to be a challenge because the strings are a fraction closer together than a normal violin. Sometimes I do end up on the wrong string, but the plus is that double-stops and chords are a lot easier on the instrument.
As far as myself, music is my life. Music is my soul. I wake up with music in my head and I am never without the sounds and rythms of some type of music. I have been described as an Eclectic Folk- Musician. I have played everything from Bach, Blues, Rock, Showtunes, Old-Time Fiddling and now to Middle Eastern.
It's great being here and I hope to make some friends!
